The De Beers Victor Diamond Mine is an open-pit mine with a processing plant, workshops, and an airstrip located on site in the James Bay Lowlands in the Province of Northern Ontario. Construction of the Victor Mine began in 2006, at an estimated cost of CDN$1 billion. An additional CDN$2.6 billion was invested in building, operating and maintaining the mine, in partnership with Indigenous businesses.
The Victor Mine reached commercial production in 2008 and operated until March 2019, when processing of ore ceased. The mine is in the reclamation phase, with vegetation being planted.
The Mine was the first Canadian diamond mine to be constructed in Ontario, followed by De Beers’ second Canadian based diamond mine (Snap Lake Diamond Mine).
BLP team members provided strategic and business development support for two of the largest consulting engineering and environmental resource management firms involved in the project.
